Trump's DOJ Taps on Andrew Cuomo Just Weeks After Dropping Eric Adams Case Amid Boiling NYC Mayoral Race

The justice department under the Trump administration has initiated a criminal probe into ex-New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, who is currently leading in the polls for the forthcoming election of mayor in New York City.

He has faced allegations of misleading Congress regarding specific choices he made during the Covid-19 pandemic. At that point, he was serving as the governor and stepped down from his role in 2021.

The Justice Department along with the Federal Bureau of Investigation chose not to offer any comments to The New York Times.Rich Azzopardi, who speaks on behalf of Cuomo, stated that the mayoral candidate had no knowledge of the investigation.

We have never received information about this issue before, so why would anyone disclose it at this point?" Azzopardi stated. "The explanation is clear: This is simply an attempt to use legal processes as a weapon for political ends—something both President Trump and his key DOJ leaders claim to oppose.

He went on to say that Cuomo "gave truthful testimony based on his memory regarding incidents from four years prior and expressed willingness to answer additional queries from the subcommittee. However, right from the start, this entire process was clearly politically motivated."

Cuomo is at the forefront of the New York City mayoral race scheduled for June 24. He has been vocal about his criticisms of the President. Donald Trump On the campaign trail, referring to him as a "bully" and pledging to resist him.

Earlier this year, the charges against Adams were dismissed. The Democratic mayor faced allegations of accepting over $100,000 in complimentary airfare and high-end lodging from affluent Turkish citizens for almost ten years while serving in local office.

Although Cuomo was initially adored when he first became governor, he stepped down in 2021 due to numerous sexual harassment accusations being levied against him simultaneously.

He strongly refuted the notion of deliberately mistreating women and labeled the calls for his removal as politically driven. Meanwhile, there was growing impetus within the Legislature to initiate impeachment proceedings against him.
