New Yorker Pleads Guilty to Threatening Michigan's AG Nessel

A man from New York who was charged with making hate crime threats against Michigan's Attorney General, Dana Nessel, has admitted guilt, as reported by the U.S. Attorney's Office.

According to federal authorities, Kevin Delgado, who is 40 years old and from Bayside, New York, has been scheduled for sentencing on September 22nd. He stands accused of one charge related to threatening communications across state lines. The potential jail time he could face is up to five years.

On October 21, 2023, Nessel shared an image on X featuring herself and a friend who tragically lost their life that same day, as stated in a press release from the U.S. Attorney's Office. The caption detailed her friend’s beliefs and impact within the local community. Authorities mentioned that the next day, Delgado responded with a menacing comment directed at Nessel’s post.

According to the press statement, Delgado confessed to making threats against Nessel due to her religious beliefs and perceived sexual orientation. It's noted that Nessel identifies as gay and Jewish.

"The federal government is committed to safeguarding all Americans from acts of violence. Each individual deserves equal respect, and our office will relentlessly strive to ensure their protection. Furthermore, public officials should be able to carry out their duties without apprehension," stated U.S. Attorney Jerome Gorgon.
