Heartache for Sussan Ley days after she made history as the first female leader of the Liberal Party
Sussan Ley, an opposition leader, has revealed the heartbreaking death of her mother mere days after she became the first woman to lead the Liberal Party.
"In the first hours of today, my mother, Angela Braybrooks, passed away here in Albury," Ley stated in her message. Instagram post on Saturday.
'I am profoundly affected by this loss along with my family.'
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the team at Riverwood Aged Care facility for the exceptional care they gave Angela. During her last days, she remained comfortable and serene.
My mother was a psychiatric nurse who assisted countless individuals throughout her career. She instilled in me the importance of being resilient, independent, and persistent.
Ley stated that during Angela's upbringing in wartime Britain, she could not have imagined that her daughter would become Australia’s first female Leader of the Opposition. However, due to her influence, this achievement occurred earlier this week.
On Monday evening, a priest encouraged her mother to hold on so she could witness another significant event in her child's life, assuring her with the promise of celebrating with champagne the next day.
'Tuesday morning, shortly after being granted the tremendous honor by my fellow Liberals to lead our party, I traveled down the Hume Highway to reach her side,' Ley stated.
Although mom could no longer speak, she observed every second of my press conference. When I returned to her room later that day, her eyes sparkled with joy. That moment is one I will cherish always.
More to come...
